Superb view of the citadel of Cuneo, decorated with a cartouche containing 8 numbered legends, in Dutch and French, and decorated with the coat of arms of the city, with its Latin motto "Ferendo", in French "En supportant". The map shows the castle, the bastions, the ravelins (or half moons), the hornwork, the governor's palace, the town hall, the mills and the palace where Francis I stayed in August 1515, after having besieged the city, and shortly before the battle of Marignan.
Simultaneouly published in French and Dutch. This fine and monumental work describes and depicts the wars of Prince Eugene de Savoye, the Duke of Marlborough and the Prince of Nassau, in Italy, Hungary, Germany, The Netherlands and against the Turcs. The engraved maps are engraved by Hubert Iallot, Covens & Mortier, Guillaume de L'Isle etc. The very detailed panoramas of war scenes, include the fine and famous series made by Jan Huchtenburg (Huchtenburg, Pinxit et excudit). Prince Eugene's almost invariable success on the battlefield raised the reputation of the Austrian army to a point which it never reached either before or since his day. War was with him a passion. Always on March, in camps, or on the field of battle during more than fifty years, and under the reigns of three emperors, he had scarcely passed 2 years together without fighting.
Copperplate engraving, in very good condition.
