Description

An artist's studio, after Munkácsy, with the painter sitting at centre, brush and palette in hands, glancing at his easel at left, a young woman sitting by his side looking in the same direction, a child sitting on a chair at left; published in 'L'Art', VI, 1876.

Etching and drypoint, lettered above image: 'Salon de 1876' and below, with production detail: 'M Munkacsy pinx. - Ch. Courtry sculp.' and 'Imp. a. Salmon', 'L'Art', and title.

A good impression on contemporary laid paper, with margins, very good condition.

Charles Courtry (1846 - 1897)

Engraver and etcher, born in Paris. He worked for an architect at the age of 14, pupil of Léon Gaucherel and the etcher Léopold Flameng. Engraved nearly 500 reproductive plates. He worked in Paris at the French Etching Club in 1875, and in London where he exhibited at the RA, also etched plates for 'Magazine of Art'. Legion of Honour in 1881, died in Paris.
