Beautiful view from "Italien. Eine wanderung von den Alpen bis zum Aetna", edited by C. Stieler, E. Paulus, and W. Kaden, published in Stuttgart in 1876 and illustrated with numerous woodcuts of views of cities and monuments. The work enjoyed considerable editorial success and was reprinted in the following years in major European countries with variant illustrations.

Woldemar Kaden (born February 9, 1838, Dresden; died July 26, 1907, Munich) was a travel writer, novelist, and translator whose work focused primarily on Italy. Kaden was born in Dresden in 1838 and studied theology and pedagogy in Leipzig. From 1861 onward, he worked as a teacher in various locations, initially near his hometown, then in the Baltic states, as a private tutor in Riga, and later as a teacher and principal of a private school in Dorpat (now Tartu, Estonia). Around 1870, he served for several years as principal of the German School in Naples. From 1876 to 1882, he taught German at a secondary school in Naples. He died in 1907 at the age of 69 while visiting Munich. Between the 1870s and 1880s he published numerous travelogues, short novels, sketches and further translations from Italy, some in book form, others in magazines such as “Die Gartenlaube”.

Jean Felix Gauchard, French engraver, born in 1825 and died in 1872. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1851 to 1872 and contributed to the Parisian magazines "Magasin Pittoresque" and "Tour du Monde".
