Nativity with Angels

Engraving, ca. 1600/1610, signed and dedicated - to Marquis Giovanni Piedimonte - in plate at lower right: "Dominico toschano f. DD".

Magnificent and very rare print dating from early 17th-century Sienese Mannerism. We have found no record of this Domenico Toscano or, for that matter, any other examples of this engraving. The composition is probably derived from a subject by Francesco Vanni (Siena, 1563-October 26, 1610).

Beautiful proof, rich in tone, impressed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to copper or with very small margins, laid down on antique paper, in very good condition.
