Portrait of Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543), German mathematician and astronomer.
Jacob van Meurs was a Dutch engraver and publisher from Amsterdam. Active from 1651 to 1680, he specialized in richly illustrated folio books on the world, organized by continent or country, starting in 1665. Many of Ogilby's publications used van Meurs's plates.
Etching, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed inside the plate and mounted on an old paper support, in good condition.
