Description

Engraving based on Johannes Vermeer's painting entitled “The Geographer.” The original painting, created between 1668 and 1669, is located at the Städelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt. Published in “L'Art,” volume XXXI, 1882.

Etching, circa 1882, signed at the bottom where the production details are also shown.

Good impression on contemporary laid paper, with margins, excellent condition.

Etcher, engraver, sculptor. B. Zalt-Bommel (Netherlands), then in Paris. Pupil of Alphonse François. His sister Suzanne married Edouart Manet; Leenhof was portrayed by his brother in law in the famous 'Déjeuner sur l'Herbe'.
