Philippe Rousseau (Paris, 1816 - Acquigny, 1887) was a French painter. A pupil of Gros and Bertin, he initially devoted himself to landscapes, painting from life and at the same time drawing inspiration from the 17th-century Dutch. The influence of the latter equally deeply imprinted his depictions of animals; his representative works are found in the museums of Chartres, Douai, Lyon, Riom, and Rouen.

Still lifes, which constitute the best part of his work, such as Plum Jams, 1871, now in the Musée de Dieppe and other examples in the Louvre Museum in Paris, the National Gallery in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the museums of Le Mans, Reims, and Valenciennes.

Beautiful impression, on contemporary laid paper, with wide margins, very good condition.
