Azores, Cape Verde Islands

A globe gore depicting Azores and Cap Verd islands, part of the rare Globe terrestre rédigé d'après les observations astronomiques les plus justes et les plus récentes / par M. Buy de Mornas, printed in Paris in 1768.

Claude Buy de Mornas was geographer to King Louis XVI and the Duke of Berry beginning in 1764. He helped facilitate the study of this science in the 18th century by publishing two famous atlases: Atlas Méthodique et Elémentaire de Géographie et d' Histoire, 1761, Atlas Historique et Géographique, 1762.

The Buy de Mornas globe is quite rare; a complete set of the gore is preserved at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, département Cartes et plans [GE D-12572]
