Die Tyrolische Handels Stadt Botzen

A perspective view of the city titled "Die Tyrolische Handel-Stadt BOTZEN" (The Tyrolean commercial city of Bolzano), created by the renowned German engraver and publisher Gabriel Bodenehr, active in Augsburg around 1720–1725.

It is a detailed bird's-eye view of the city of Bolzano, based on the famous earlier 17th-century model by Matthäus Merian.

The view is flanked on the left by a German text panel describing Bolzano's commercial importance, noting that "Botzen so von denen Italianeren Bolzano geheisen wird..." (Botzen, which is called Bolzano by the Italians...) is famous for its four renowned annual trade fairs. At the bottom of the engraving, the rivers surrounding the Bolzano basin are clearly visible, including the Isarco (Eysack) and the Talvera (Talfer Fl.).

Taken from "Atlas Curieux oder Neuer und Compendieuser Atlas..."—the major work of Gabriel Bodenehr, a German cartographer from a famous family of engravers and publishers in Augsburg. The atlas includes 101 engraved maps, featuring four double-hemisphere world maps, a hydrographic map, maps of the continents, the first four maps relating to the Americas, and detailed maps of Europe and European countries. Some maps bear titles exclusively in Latin.
