Piazza del Popolo with the famous Egyptian obelisk and the twin churches, enriched by a double bilingual caption (Italian and French) at the bottom and animated by small figures and carriages. This perspective representation is typical of collections of Roman views produced between the late 18th and 19th centuries.

Filippo Palmucci was an Italian draftsman and engraver active in Rome primarily in the first half of the 19th century (with documented activity in particular between the 1810s and 1840s). Palmucci devoted himself extensively to the creation of views of ancient and modern monuments in Rome. His engravings, often etchings or copperplates, were commissioned by Roman publishers of the time (such as the Roman publisher Agapito Franzetti) to be sold individually or collected in souvenir albums for foreign travelers.
