Rare panorama of Rome from the slopes of Monte Mario, signed on plate "P.H.Schut fecit / N.Visscher excudit'.

The plate is from Afbeeldinghe der voornaemste steden van Europa, printed in Amsterdam, Nicolaes Visscher, in 1658-60. (Van der Krogt 4, 451:3).

Pieter Hendricksz. Schut (c.1619-1660) was a painter, engraver and draughtsman active in Amsterdam. A pupil of Balthasar Florisz van Berckenrode and Claes Jansz Visscher. He was active in Amsterdam from 1631 to 1660. He specialized in the depiction of religious and topographical subjects. He made devotional prints and views of major European cities, mainly Flanders and Amsterdam, modeled after those of Matthäus Merian, who engraved for the publisher Nicolas Visscher I, son of his master Claes Jansz Visscher.

Etching, printed on contemporary laid paper, with margins, in very good condition.
