Anonymous perspective view of Rhodes, with no date and editorial indications. A Lafreri school engraving, known in 3 examples.

At the top center, the title: RODI. Without orientation and graphic scale.

Etching and engraving, magnificent proof, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to copperplate, traces of ancient coloring, very good condition.

The work appears to be a reduction of the model introduced by Bernhard von Breydenbach in the Peregrinatio in Terram Sanctam (Mainz 1486). As Borroni rightly notes, this work appears to be particularly more accurate, as well as of a larger format, than the analogous views of the city published by Bertelli, Camocio and Pinargenti.

The view is extremely rare; in addition to the example described by Borroni (Biblioteca Nazionale of Florence) and that of the atlas of Alessandro d'Este (Biblioteca Estense of Modena), we have only recorded one at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. There are no known reprints.
