Architectural plate from the famous Regola delli cinque ordini d'architettura di m. Iacomo Barozzio da Vignola, [Rule of the Five Orders of Architecture by Giacomo Barozzio da Vignola], published in Siena by Pietro Marchett, 1635.
This is the Sienese edition of Vignola's celebrated treatise, which draws inspiration from classical (Vitruvius) and Renaissance (Alberti) treatises. Due to its didactic effectiveness and clarity of exposition, it became a practical handbook and enjoyed widespread circulation until the end of the 19th century. This work first established the rules of the classical orders, including the composite, and established them as the foundation of all true architecture.
Etching and engraving, in good condition.
