Karl, or Carl, Gotthard Grass was a poet, theologian, travel writer, landscape painter and draughtsman.
He was trained in drawing by Johann Christoph Brotze in Riga, 1782-86. For the Next three years he studied theology at Jena, where he was befriended by Schiller. By 1791 he was back in Riga; from 1796 he travelled to Zurich, Paris and Rome.

Karl, or Carl, Gotthard Grass was a poet, theologian, travel writer, landscape painter and draughtsman.
