Description

Engraving, 1574, dated and inscribed in lower right “Federicus Zuccha inven./Hier.s Olgiatus f 1574”.

After Federico Zuccari.

Magnificient proof, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to the platemark, very good condition.

A very rare work, published by Luca Bertelli, not described by the literature.

This print, in reverse, reproduces a Cornelis Cort’s engraving, dated 1572, in turn after a Federico Zuccari’s painting for palazzo Farnese in Caprarola. It depicts in the sacred garden Adam naps in a quiet place while God creates Eve from Adam's form. (cfr. New Hollstein Dutch 1-1(3); TIB 52, 1).
