Magnificent view of the Colosseum, published in Paris with the Bulla frerés imprint around 1830/40.
Litografia Bulla is the oldest lithographic workshop still in operation in the world, founded in Paris in 1818 by François Bulla and subsequently relocated to Rome in 1840.
The address "Bulla frerés" in Paris, Rue Titequonne 18, therefore probably refers to the period immediately prior to the move to Rome. However, some repertories also list the imprint as active around 1860.
Today, Litografia Bulla is managed by sisters Flaminia and Beatrice Bulla, the seventh generation of the Bulla family, who run it alongside their father Romolo Bulla and aunt Rosalba Bulla. In the early days, Bulla was involved in various cultural and commercial activities; However, in the 1940s, Flaminia and Beatrice's grandfather decided to dedicate himself fully to art, thus becoming a key figure in the local and international art community.
Etching and aquatint with wonderful contemporary coloring, in excellent condition. Rare.
