Albert Emil Kirchner (1813 Lipsia - 1885 Monaco di Baviera) è stato un pittore, disegnatore e grafico tedesco. Kirchner fu allievo di Friedrich Brauer all'Accademia di Lipsia. Frequentò poi l'Accademia d'arte di Dresda, dove il futuro pittore di architettura e paesaggi divenne allievo di Johan Christian Clausen Dahl e Caspar David Friedrich. A Monaco di Baviera ricevette l'incarico da Ludwig Puttrich di Lipsia di realizzare illustrazioni per la raccolta Denkmale der Baukunst des Mittelalters [Monumenti dell'architettura medievale], il cui primo volume fu pubblicato nel 1836. Oltre ai disegni si dedicò anche alla pittura, trovando i suoi motivi anche nei numerosi viaggi che lo portarono, tra l'altro, in Alto Adige, a Verona, a Venezia, nella regione del Reno e soprattutto nella zona di Heidelberg. Kirchner divenne membro dell'Accademia di Monaco e lo Stato lo onorò conferendogli una lauta pensione. Tra il 1859 e il 1862, Kirchner dipinse una serie di acquerelli raffiguranti città della Ferrovia Orientale Bavarese per conto della stessa e li dedicò al suo direttore, Paul Camille von Denis. Le immagini fanno ora parte della collezione del Museo DB e vengono spesso riprodotte in letteratura come importante fonte di conoscenza della storia ferroviaria.

German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. Kirchner was the son of a master carpenter. He first attended the Latin School of St. Thomas in Leipzig and, at the age of 13, the architectural school directed by Albert Geutebrück (1801–1868). Two years later, he was a pupil of Friedrich Brauers at the Leipzig Academy. He then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, where the future architectural and landscape painter became a pupil of Johan Christian Clausen Dahl and Caspar David Friedrich. In 1832 he moved to Munich. In 1834, he and his wife, whom he had married in 1836, moved permanently to Munich. In Munich, he was commissioned by Ludwig Puttrich of Leipzig to create illustrations for the collection "Monuments of Medieval Architecture", the first volume of which was published in 1836. In addition to drawing, he also devoted himself to painting, drawing interesting ideas from the numerous trips that took him to Alto Adige, Verona, Venice, the Rhine region and in particular the Heidelberg area. Kirchner became a member of the Munich Academy and the State honored him with a substantial pension.
