Carta itineraria di Andrew Dury, tratta dal raro The Roads of Italy, Engraved on Twenty Six Copper Plates from the Manuscript Drawings of a Nobleman of Distinction. Wherein are found all the Cities, Towns, Villages, Rivers, Remarkable Views &c: to be met with on the Road, with proper descriptions; Also a Regular account of the Posts, the price of Horses & the Principal Inns, either upon the Road, or in the Towns, with their prices. To which is added several other useful Instructions which render it extreemly necessary for every Person who travels in that Country (London: Printed for Andrew Dury in Duke’s Court, St. Martin’s Lane, 1774).

L'atlante è stato stampato sia in francese che in italiano, le lingue principali dell'epoca, ed era destinato ai viaggiatori inglesi multilingue. Presenta 27 mappe incise a mano e colorate che si piegano come mini-cordoni.  I nomi dei luoghi, delle città e dei punti di riferimento erano tutti stampati in italiano. 

L’atlante è chiaramente una replica, per il mercato inglese, della Direzione pe' viaggiatori in Italia di Carlo Barbieri, stampata a Bologna nel 1771. Le carte sono copiate da quelle di Barbieri e sono firmate da Peter Andrews.

Andrew DURY (1742 - 1778)

Andrew Dury (fl. 1742 - 1778) was a London based engraver, map publisher, and map seller working in the mid to late 18th century. Little is known of Dury's life. Hw was likely born in Ireland, but spent considerable time in Paris until about 1754. He first appeares in Dublin in 1754, possibly in the company of John Rocque (1704 - 1762), which whom he is closely associated. At that time he advertised himself as an engraver 'Late of Paris'. His imprint often appears on the work of a number of prominent London publishers from Sayer and Bennet to Laurie and Whittle and Gentlemans' Magazine.
