Description
Etching and engraving, 1670, in the oval frame “Clemente X Pont. Max. Created. adi. 29 April 1670”, under the portrait: “Gio Iacomo Rossi le Stampa in / Roma Alla PaceAlinsegna di Parigi”.
Fine example, printed on contemporary laid paper, trace of the two folds, trimmed to the copper line, overall in excellent condition.
The engraving depicts in the center, the portrait of Pope Clement X (1670 - 1676), born Emilio Bonaventura Altieri (1590-1676), elected on 29 April 1670.
Around the portrait, three scenes, with related caption, depicting the Pope on the gestation chair; the phase of the “Conclave disfatto dai conclavisti” (“conclave dismantled by the conclavists”) and the adoration of the Pope in St. Peter's.
The plate bears the address of Gio. Giacomo de Rossi, but it isn’t listed in Indice delle stampe De Rossi – Grelle Iusco.
