Description

Panoramic view taken from Viaggio Pittorico nel Regno delle due Sicilie dai ss.ri Cuciniello e Bianchi dedicato a sua Maestà il Re Francesco Primo.

Work in 3 volumes, illustrated with 180 views (lithographs on China paper), printed by the publishers, S. Anna di Palazzo, (1830-1833).

The first part was dedicated to Naples and divided into two volumes: the first concerns the city of Naples and its province, the second Sicily. Following the successful, centuries-old tradition traced by Saint-Non with the Voyage pittoresque ..., great importance is given in this work to plates with lithographic views by Müller, Hörner, Wenzel, and others.

The views were painted by the landscape painters of the so-called Posillipo school, then almost in its infancy, who derived their sense of landscape and urban portraiture from the Topographical Office, in particular Giacinto Gigante, Achille Vianelli, Raffaele Carelli, and others inserted in the best romantic Neapolitan environment.

But what especially gives a sign of novelty to the work is the text, entrusted to Raffaele Liberatore, a man of letters who describes the places with an attitude of nostalgic evocation that helps to determine the romantic myth.

Lithograph in excellent condition.
