Description

Etching and aquatint, printed in bistro ink on contemporary paper.

The plate, designed and engraved by Angiolo Angiolini, depicts the Medici fortress of San Martino in San Piero a Sieve; at the bottom is the dedication to Sig.re Ferdinando Malevolti del Benino.

The construction was strongly desired by Cosimo I de Medici to place a bulwark in defense of the family's possessions and the Florentine state, as well as to meet the pressing demands of the local population, tired of the continuous looting perpetuated against them by armies and bands from the north.

In excellent state of preservation. Rare.

Angiolo ANGIOLINI (Attivo a Firenze tra il 1805 e il 1822)
